How to use

Designed to help you progress once you’re comfortable with the basics. Use it as supplementary material alongside your studies.

Pick a school grade or JLPT level and do this each day:

  1. Handwrite the passage in a notebook.
  2. Read the passage out loud.
  3. Understand the meaning of the passage (if you need help, check the English translation).
  4. Take note of the grammar points (try understanding them in Japanese first; if you need help, refer to the English translation).

ありの はなし

きのしたに ありの いえが あります。ありは みんなで はたらきます。おおきい えさを ひとりでは もてません。だから、みんなで はこびます。そして、いえまで もっていきます。ありは とても げんきです。

文法

  • 「だから」は まえの ことが りゆうに なって、あとの ことが おこる ときに つかう ことばです。
  • 「そして」は ひとつの ことの あとに、べつの ことが つづく ときに つかう ことばです。
  • 「〜ません」は どうしを ていねいに ひていする ときの かたちです。
  • 「〜は〜です」は なにかについて せつめいする ときの きほんの かたちです。

The Story of the Ants

There is an ants' home under a tree. The ants work together. One ant alone cannot carry a big piece of food. So, they carry it together. And then they bring it all the way home. The ants are very lively.

  • "だから" (so, therefore) connects a reason to the result that follows from it.
  • "そして" (and then) connects one action or event to the next one that follows.
  • "~ません" is the polite negative form of a verb.
  • "~は~です" is the basic pattern used to state what something is.
