In Front of the Self-Checkout

Ms. Sato works part-time at a supermarket near the station. Last month the store introduced self-checkout machines, but many elderly customers aren't used to operating them. One day, a woman who looked to be in her eighties stood in front of the screen, looking troubled. She hesitated, saying, "I feel bad always relying on young people," but she surely wanted someone to help her. Sato couldn't just stand by pretending not to notice someone in trouble, so she carefully explained the steps. After finishing her purchase, the woman looked relieved and said with a smile, "If I get confused again, I'll ask you," before leaving the store.
