Getting Ready for the Marathon

To Kenta, Congratulations on signing up for your first marathon. Just because you've only just started training doesn't mean you need to force yourself to run long distances. If you feel pain in your body, it's important to rest too. As long as you run at your own pace without rushing, you should be able to finish just fine. I'll be there to cheer you on, so enjoy the run.

  • "~からといって" means 'just because ~' or 'even though ~', expressing that having a certain reason does not necessarily mean a particular (often assumed) conclusion follows; it's frequently followed by a negative statement.
  • "~さえ~ば" means 'if only ~', emphasizing that a single condition is sufficient for something to be achieved, setting aside other factors.
  • "~はずだ" expresses the speaker's strong expectation or belief that something should naturally be the case, based on reasoning or known facts.
