How to use

Designed to help you progress once you’re comfortable with the basics. Use it as supplementary material alongside your studies.

Pick a school grade or JLPT level and do this each day:

  1. Handwrite the passage in a notebook.
  2. Read the passage out loud.
  3. Understand the meaning of the passage (if you need help, check the English translation).
  4. Take note of the grammar points (try understanding them in Japanese first; if you need help, refer to the English translation).

あたらしいはたらきかた

ひさしぶり。げんきにしている?じつは、うちのかいしゃがらいげつからしゅうきゅうみっかせいをためすことになったんだ。さいしょはしごとがおわらないのではないかとしんぱいしていたけれど、どうりょうたちとそうだんしながらすすめれば、なんとかなりそうだ。やすみがふえるぶん、かぞくとすごすじかんもふえるはずだから、たのしみにしている。もしうまくいったら、ぜひあってくわしくはなしたいな。

文法

  • 決定けっていや変化へんかを表あらわす表現ひょうげん。「~ことになった」で、自分じぶんの意志いしだけではなく、物事ものごとがそう決きまったことを示しめす。
  • 自分じぶんの推測すいそくや不安ふあんを遠とお回まわしに述のべる表現ひょうげん。
  • 根拠こんきょに基もとづいた自然しぜんな推測すいそくや期待きたいを表あらわす表現ひょうげん。
  • 仮定かていの条件じょうけんを表あらわす表現ひょうげん。「もし~たら」でその後のちに続つづく行動こうどうや結果けっかを述のべる。

A New Way of Working

Long time no see. How are you doing? Actually, starting next month, my company has decided to try a four-day workweek system. At first I worried that I might not be able to finish my work, but if I move forward while consulting with my colleagues, it seems like it'll work out somehow. Since I'll have more days off, I should also have more time to spend with my family, so I'm looking forward to it. If it goes well, I'd love to meet up and tell you all about it in detail.

  • Expresses that something has been decided or arranged, often not purely by the speaker's own will.
  • A hedged way of expressing one's own speculation or worry, meaning "I wonder if..." or "I'm afraid that...".
  • Expresses a confident expectation or inference based on reasoning, meaning "it should be the case that...".
  • Expresses a hypothetical condition, meaning "if ~, then ~".
