How to use

Designed to help you progress once you’re comfortable with the basics. Use it as supplementary material alongside your studies.

Pick a school grade or JLPT level and do this each day:

  1. Handwrite the passage in a notebook.
  2. Read the passage out loud.
  3. Understand the meaning of the passage (if you need help, check the English translation).
  4. Take note of the grammar points (try understanding them in Japanese first; if you need help, refer to the English translation).

ちいきマラソンたいかいボランティアぼしゅう

らいげつ15じゅうごにちにかいさいされるしみんマラソンたいかいでは、コースぞいでさんかしゃをおうえんするボランティアをぼしゅうしています。とうじつはあさ7しちじからひるすぎまでのさぎょうとなるため、たいりょくにじしんのあるかたをかんげいします。けいけんがなくても、じぜんのせつめいかいにさんかしさえすれば、だれでもあんしんしてかつどうできます。もうしこみはこんしゅうちゅうにすませておいてください。おおくのかたのごきょうりょくをおまちしております。

文法

  • 「〜さえすれば」は「〜という条件じょうけんだけを満みたせば十分じゅうぶんだ」という意味いみを表あらわし、他たの条件じょうけんは問題もんだいにならないことを強調きょうちょうする表現ひょうげん。
  • 「〜となる」は「〜になる」の硬かたい言いい方かたで、告知こくちや説明せつめいなどの文章ぶんしょうでよく使つかわれる表現ひょうげん。
  • 「〜ておいてください」は、後あとのために今いま何なにかをすませておくよう、相手あいてに依頼いらいする表現ひょうげん。

Volunteers Wanted for Community Marathon

A citizens' marathon will be held on the 15th of next month, and volunteers are being recruited to cheer on participants along the course. Since the work will run from 7 a.m. until past noon on the day, people who are confident in their physical stamina are especially welcome. Even without experience, as long as you attend the briefing session beforehand, anyone can take part with peace of mind. Please make sure to complete your application sometime this week. We look forward to the cooperation of many people.

  • 「~さえすれば」means 'as long as ~' or 'if only ~', emphasizing that satisfying this one condition alone is sufficient, regardless of other factors.
  • 「~となる」is a more formal way of saying 「~になる」('becomes ~'), commonly used in announcements and explanatory writing.
  • 「~ておいてください」is used to request that the listener complete an action now in preparation for later, meaning 'please do ~ in advance'.
